CHA works with communities throughout New Zealand

Building a strong, vibrant community housing sector and creating opportunities for growing more social and affordable housing is important to us. CHA supports community housing networks in Auckland and in Te Wai Pounamu and an emergency housing provider network in Auckland.

dwelltreeplanting.jpgThere are other ways CHA assists in affordable and social housing developments. This can be through project consultation or in providing advice to support community housing development. If you are a member of Community Housing Aotearoa (CHA) or you are involved in developing community housing you can approach CHA for advice and information here.

Strong networks

CHA supports a number of local housing provider networks in different regions. Here are examples of three networks that have received CHA support:

  • The Auckland Community Housing Providers Network (ACHPN) This is a group of not-for-profit community housing organisations based in the Auckland region that are actively involved in developing and providing affordable housing. Go here to see their website.
  • Te Wai Pounamu Community Housing Provider Network began in 2015 with the support of CHA, and is composed of community housing providers based in the South Island who are actively involved in developing and providing community housing.
  • Auckland Emergency Housing provider group

This is a network of community housing organisations with a focus on families in immediate housing need with no alternative supports.

Consultancy

CHA is frequently consulted on community housing and the provision of affordable and social housing in New Zealand.

Examples of this are reconfiguration of housing stock for local authorities and the Tamaki housing redevelopment project.

Along with members of the Auckland Community Housing Provider Network, CHA works with the Tāmaki Redevelopment Company on partnerships to develop new affordable housing supply in Tāmaki. You can contact us here here for consultancy services.

Supporting housing development – Making affordable homes happen

Developments such as the Waimahia Inlet are being created by partnerships between community housing organisations with the support of urban planners, architects and building companies. Private developers can realise benefits from working in partnership with community housing organisations and CHA is experienced in facilitating these processes.

The Making Homes Happen website can show you some of the partnerships and housing development that is happening in Auckland in this especially designed website to encourage collaboration between developers and the private market, Council, Government and community housing organisations.

Your housing project does not need to be a large development like the Waimahia inlet to seek advice from CHA – it just needs to be a community housing project.
