The Community Housing Best Best Practice Guide & associated resource toolkits
- The 3rd edition of the CHA Best Practice Guide has been published this year (2010) with an extensive range of associated new material, consisting of practical tools and templates.
- The Best Practice Guide is designed to assist organisations to adopt best practice across the board and is the foundation document of the CHA Resource Library. The Best Practice Guide is supported by the Assessment Booklet which can be used to record evidence and actions your organisation is taking to improve its practices. In the first instance the Best Practice Guide and Assessment Booklet form the basis of a self assessment process that could possibly feed into systems of formal accreditation in the future.
- In addition to the Best Practice Guide itself and its Assessment Booklet, the topics and resources in the CHA Resource Library are grouped into seven main component parts:
- 1 – Governance and Organisational Management - with thirty (30) associated resources
The key toolkits in this collection of resources relate to Governance & Risk Management. Topics and processes covered include the conduct of AGMs, a template for Governance policies, risk identification and management.- 2 – Organisational Management - with thirty-four (34) associated resources
Every organisation needs to monitor how well it is performing and to develop its capabilities in business planning and leadership. This part of the CHA Resource Library has an assortment of documents relevant to those aspects of organissational management, including checklists and worksheets. It also includes a comprehensive set of documents to assist or further enable organisations in meeting health and safety obligations.- 3 – Human Resource Management - with seventy-one (71) associated resources
A set of resources convering the full range of HR tasks: writing position descriptions, interviewing for positions, employment agreements, induction, performance management, as well as other standard HR procedures.- 4 – Financial Management - with eighteen (18) associated resources
Being familiar with basic accounting and financial management requirements is a must for every organisation.- 5 – Tenancy Management- with sixty-one (61) associated resources
Managing tenancies requires a solid command of the rights and responsibilities of tenants. This part of the CHA Resource Library includes sample forms and letters vital to sound tenancy management.- 6 – Property & Asset Management- with one-hundred-and-four (104) associated resources
Developing a property for community housing involves contractors, communications, project planning and risk management, accompanied by practical issues such as notifications, change requests and maintenance. Having access to the right paperwork, at the right time, for the right purpose can make all the difference for a successful project and ongoing asset management.- 7 – Working With Tenants & The Community – with twenty-three (23) associated resources
At the centre of the philosophy of ‘building houses, building communities’ are the people who will live in those houses and communities. This part of the CHA Resource Library features documents with various uses; from welcoming tenants to their new home through to reaching the necessary agreements; from helping to ensure that households have what they need through to resolving problems along the way.
In total then, the CHA Resource Library brings together and provides access to well over 300 separate documents, forms, checklists and templates. To receive more information about the availability of the contents of the CHA Resource Library please contact us.
