Nominations:
CHA full members can vote for any FOUR of the following candidates. You can read their full application by clicking the PDF below.
Bernie Smith – Monte Cecilia Housing Trust
As CEO of Monte Cecilia with 22 staff, we house 38 families in emergency housing and 52 families in our social housing. We also have a strong advocacy service assisting over 500 families per year. I previously managed 3500 public housing units in Queensland, Australia and 1600 tenancies across North West Queensland.
If elected I’m committed to proactively support CHA to clear representation to Government for true partnership that is reflected in our contracts, funding levels and terms. I want to pursue a building WoF and closure of boarding houses who do not offer warm, safe, secure housing.
Carrie Mozena – Nelson Tasman Housing Trust (Current CHA Council Treasurer)
I am a founding trustee of the Nelson Tasman Housing Trust (NTHT), active with NTHT since its establishment in 2004. I have helped write numerous funding and project proposals to grow our portfolio, now 43 homes plus one leased from MSD and lead preparations for NTHT to take on management of Nelson City Council’s 142 community housing units.
CHA is strongest when the diversity of its member organisations is represented at the Council table. I bring the perspective of the smaller community housing providers operating in the regions.
Greg Orchard – Accessible Properties New Zealand
Currently Chief Executive, Accessible Properties New Zealand. With over 30 years involvement in the housing sector in various roles, I am a Chartered Accountant and Certified Finance and Investment Professional.
It is important that we have a strong umbrella organisation with a strong voice that promotes excellence and supports the growth and development of the community housing sector. I am passionate about community housing and committed to applying my skills and experience where I can to promote and support the sector, together with the people who work in it, to achieve the best outcomes possible for the people we serve.
Julie Nelson – LinkPeople (Current CHA Council Co-Chair)
Julie Nelson is currently Chair of LinkPeople (formally Keys Social Housing Ltd) and joint Chief Executive of the Wise Group of entities that include Pathways Ltd, one of New Zealand’s largest non-government providers of mental health and wellness services; and a range of other subsidiary companies. LinkPeople tenants and manages over 300 Community Group Housing properties nationwide.
The opportunity to be part of the CHA council is exciting and provides a wonderful platform to engage with the sector and key players to create sustainable change. For me there is nothing more important than safe affordable quality housing and quite simply it is my passion.
Julie Scott – Queenstown Lakes Community Housing Trust (QLCHT)
(Current CHA Council member)
As Executive Officer I’m responsible for managing the daily operations of the QLCHT. I have a varied set of skills having been with the Trust since its inception and good knowledge across industry-wide issues such as charitable status issues, MSD and MBIE contracts, housing bond start-ups, and home ownership programmes.
QLCHT is geographically isolated from most other CHA members and I believe it’s important our organisation is represented around the CHA table. I have a broad range of experience across many aspects of the community housing sector and believe I can add value to the CHA Council.
Peter Taylor – Habitat for Humanity
Peter Taylor brings a mix of governance and management experience in housing, construction, finance and marketing. Since the 2011 earthquakes, Peter has been General Manager at Habitat for Humanity Christchurch. They currently house 25 Christchurch families in homes constructed under their community volunteer mobilisation model. 21 of these were constructed in response to the post-quake housing need and are destined for affordable ownership.
My nomination was prompted by the retirement of Warren Jack from the Council after six years of valuable work. I have worked alongside Warren at Habitat for Humanity and am inspired by his work.
