Livingston and Associates Ltd. have been conducting research funded by the Building Research Levy on the opportunity of alternative housing tenures for New Zealand. Research Update 2 titled “Private Renter Stress and the Accommodation Supplement” examined the experiences of private renters and how the accommodation supplement impacts affordability. The report found that an increasing number of renters cannot affordability rent particularly those earning under 80% of the regional median household income.
