DCM Wellington

DCM is more than a charity; it’s a lifeline for Wellington’s most vulnerable and marginalised residents. Since 1969, DCM’s unwavering commitment to the community has transformed countless lives. Through genuine care, relentless advocacy, and innovative solutions, DCM has become Wellington’s leading social service for those at risk of or experiencing homelessness and harm. We hold hope for those who have none and support those whom others will not.

Each day, Te Hāpai, DCM’s community space, offers a safe environment for taumai (service users) to enjoy coffee, social activities, and access essential services. Our Foodbank distributes over 2,000 food parcels each year, providing basic necessities to low-income households and rough sleepers. The Hauora Service delivers free healthcare, including medical, dental, and counselling services, while our harm-reduction programme supports taumai dealing with addiction and mental health challenges.

Our outreach team engages daily with Wellington’s rough sleepers, connecting them to essential services. Social workers and peer support staff guide taumai in navigating systems like WINZ, while our money management team helps them receive entitled benefits, manage debts, and work towards financial independence.

Through Housing First and Sustaining Tenancy, we secure stable housing for our whānau and continue providing support to address essential needs like food, healthcare, and life skills.
