May 28, 2014 | News

Finance Minister Bill English and Housing Minister Dr. Nick Smith have today announced the establishment of a new entity to grow and diversify the social housing market. The Establishment Unit will look at how, and on what terms, transfers of HNZC stock to community housing providers can be achieved alongside grant and rent subsidy supports.

In CHA’s media release CHA Director, Scott Figenshow, says today’s announcement will provide a much needed boost to the reforms.

He added that the announcement also shows that the government is listening to the sector’s views, with Dr. Smith specifically referring to the ‘A way forward for stock transfers’ report that was jointly prepared by the Network, CHA and Te Matapihi.

Thank you to everyone who took part in the development of the report and the meeting with MBIE and Treasury officials in Wellington.
