Lack of suitable housing for people with disabilities (originally published 23/1/15)

Marlborough Sustainable Housing Trust chairwoman Bev James said the trust was approached on a regular basis by members of the public desperate for a place to live. “There is almost no rental accommodation that is suitable for mobility impaired people. The need is critical.”

Blenheim solo mum Vanessa Pali and her three children, one of whom has cerebral palsy and cortical visual impairment, moved into the new home late last year. The trust held an official opening of the house on Wednesday. Pali said she felt very lucky to be chosen as the new tenant, as she and her three young children had never stayed in a house longer than a year.
