Paula Bennett reassures tenants

“One of the pleasures of my job is getting around our country and seeing for myself the great work community housing providers are doing.

Not long ago I recently met a lovely man who proudly showed me around his new home. He’s in a wheelchair and this is the first time he can live independently.

That example is just one of many that reinforce this Government’s belief that some of the best ideas for improving the lives of the most vulnerable New Zealanders come from community housing providers.

These providers currently manage about 5000 houses around New Zealand and often join-up people’s housing needs with other services.”

Minister Bennett goes on to say:”So our goal is simple: modern, tenant-focused social housing services that lead to better lives for the tenants and better outcomes for taxpayers.”
