Tamaki Regeneration Company in action on HNZC houses

Apr 4, 2016 | News

“Some Housing NZ led redevelopments are already underway and we will look to accelerate this to ensure that we continue to put our residents in new, warm and dry homes.”

Mr Holyoake says families are central to the company’s work.

“Those people affected by redevelopment and who want to stay in Tāmaki will have the opportunity to do so. This means TRC and its partners will provide sufficient housing to cater for those affected by redevelopment. ”

TRC is jointly owned by the Crown and Auckland Council. It has been increasing its capability since April 2015 when the Government announced the transfer of social houses. It builds on the work it has been doing with NGOs, local community groups and other stakeholders over the last three years.

A dedicated team has been recruited to focus on tenancy and property management at the newly established subsidiary, Tāmaki Housing Association – a registered community housing provider owned by TRC.

The rights and responsibilities of tenants will remain the same as they were with Housing NZ and are protected by law. Eligibility assessments for social housing will remain the responsibility of the Ministry of Social Development.

“As part of the regeneration programme, our tenancy managers will work closely with families on the support they require, and explore other economic and social opportunities. It helps that a number of the team are from the area or have whakapapa to Tāmaki. This is the same across the TRC team,” says Mr Holyoake.
