IRRS too expensive to extend to local authority housing

Wellington City Councillor Paul Eagle said it was not fair that councils, which provided 11,000 social houses, were not eligible for the subsidies. CHA Director, Scott Figenshow, comments on the creation of a level playing field in the housing sector in a Radio New Zealand podcast.

Income-related rents mean the Government pay the difference between social housing rentals – which are fixed at one-quarter of tenants’ incomes – and market rents.
